Because of its location and popularity, it is one of the busiest town harbours in the central Adriatic during the summer season.
Approach to the harbour is straightforward, with a wide entrance that is easy to identify from the Hvar Channel. Traffic in the area can be intense, with ferries, taxi boats and charter yachts frequently moving in and out, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Berthing for visiting yachts inside the harbour is very limited and usually not available for larger vessels.
In practice, most yachts do not stay in Hvar harbour. Instead, they use the organised mooring buoys and anchorages around the nearby Pakleni Islands, particularly in areas such as Palmižana and Vinogradišće, where conditions are more suitable for overnight stays.
The port lies directly beside the town centre, where restaurants, cafés and shops are within immediate reach. From a sailing perspective, Hvar is typically used as a stop for visiting the town, while overnight stays are usually planned in the surrounding bays rather than inside the harbour itself.
