Port of Gruž is the main harbour area of Dubrovnik, located on the northwestern side of the city inside a naturally protected bay beneath Mount Srđ. The port handles ferry traffic, cruise ships, cargo vessels and local passenger transport and functions as Dubrovnik’s main commercial harbour rather than a marina for visiting yachts.
Approach to the harbour is straightforward from the Dubrovnik Channel, with a wide entrance that is easy to identify in most conditions. Navigation inside the port requires attention due to frequent ferry operations, cruise ship traffic and heavy local vessel movement, particularly during the summer season. Wash from larger vessels can occasionally affect conditions near the operational waterfront. The harbour itself is well sheltered because of its deep position inside Gruž Bay.
Most of the waterfront is reserved for commercial and passenger operations, and the port is not intended for regular yacht berthing. Yachts visiting Dubrovnik usually berth in nearby ACI Marina Dubrovnik or use authorised mooring locations outside the operational port area.
The harbour is closely connected to the city, with supermarkets, markets, restaurants and transport links located nearby. Gruž also serves as the main departure point for ferries toward the Elaphiti Islands and other Adriatic destinations.
From a sailing perspective, Port of Gruž is mainly used as the main transport harbour for Dubrovnik rather than as a stop for cruising yachts. Most yachts entering the Dubrovnik area continue toward marinas or anchorages outside the commercial port zone.
