Zaton Veliki is a coastal settlement located northwest of Dubrovnik at the entrance to the sheltered Zaton Bay in southern Dalmatia. Positioned along a long narrow inlet connected to the Dubrovnik coastal area, the waterfront is used mainly by local boats, smaller private vessels and visiting yachts seeking a quieter stop outside the main Dubrovnik harbour zone.
The waterfront area consists primarily of local moorings, smaller berthing spots and informal anchoring areas along the sheltered bay. Conditions inside Zaton Bay are generally calm due to the naturally protected geography of the inlet, making the area suitable for short stays and overnight stops in normal weather conditions.
Access from offshore is straightforward from the Dubrovnik coastal route, with the entrance to Zaton Bay easy to identify from seaward.
Manoeuvring inside the bay is generally uncomplicated, although space near the waterfront can become limited during the summer season due to local traffic and seasonal visitors.
Restaurants, cafés and accommodation facilities are located along the waterfront of Zaton Veliki within walking distance of the shore. Services for visiting yachts remain limited, while additional provisioning, marina infrastructure and technical support are available nearby in Dubrovnik and ACI Marina Dubrovnik.
From a sailing perspective, Zaton Veliki is mainly used as a sheltered coastal stop and quieter alternative to the busier Dubrovnik waterfront areas. Its protected inlet and convenient position near Dubrovnik make it a practical stop for yachts cruising southern Dalmatia.
